Project Details
IPW… was appointed as part of a team led by our partners BDP Pattern to advise Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council on long-term investment and redevelopment options for the Bournemouth International Centre (The BIC). The Brief was focused on reimagining the venue for the next 30+ years to grow and strengthen its appeal as a major event, conference, exhibition, entertainment and touring venue.
We led a detailed market assessment exercise (RIBA Stage 0) to clearly set out the key competitive considerations and market trends across entertainment events, conferences and exhibitions, together with extensive consultation with the Council and wider stakeholders to identify a series of Critical Success Factors.
The team subsequently developed three different facility mix options to RIBA Stage 1 to illustrate the range of opportunities available, and evaluated these against the Council’s drivers to identify and recommend a preferred option. In parallel, we prepared a detail assessment (and associated business planning exercise) to specifically test arena demand and the optimum capacity for Bournemouth.
We also completed an updated market assessment to review the medium-term conditions in, and long-term prospects for, the business tourism sector.
